Upper Living Extension is a substantial extension to an existing house on a constrained residential site. The project creates a larger workshop/garage at lower level, with upper-level living accommodation above and a large picture window bringing light and long views into the main living space.

The work involved developing the planning-approved scheme into technical drawings, specifications and construction information. My role included measured survey, coordination with the structural engineer and roof/truss supplier, and detailed work on the building envelope, including insulation continuity, thermal breaks and junction detailing.

The extension wraps around the rear and side of the existing house, working tightly between neighbouring buildings and garden boundary walls. A brick base supports a lighter upper volume, creating a compact but generous living space shaped around light, outlook and improved comfort.

Thermal comfort and energy performance were important priorities throughout the technical design, with particular attention given to insulation continuity and robust envelope detailing.
